Black Mage [Final Fantasy Series]

The Black Mage, also called Black Wizard, is a job class in the Final Fantasy series, and is featured in several installments of the series. Black Mages wear outfits similar to classic wizards, consisting of blue robes and pointy hats, usually yellow or brown. Their faces are usually not visible the shade of their hats masking their appearance, except for their eyes which shine a bright, usually yellow colour. A Black Mage’s primary ability is to cast Black Magic, which usually consists of attack spells, but also contains some effect spells.

This version of the black mage was not based on any specific game, but was an amalgam of many incarnations of the black mage over the Final Fantasy series. It most closely resembles Vivi from Final Fantasy 9, but with elements from other designs thrown in.

This Costume was the first costume I made using cloth and a sewing machine. It was certainly a learning experience, but it opened up many avenues for me to explore in the future. This costume has only been worn by myself once, at the Halloween event at Engage Gaming Aberdeen, but it will be worn at Granite City Comic Con 2018 by a friend of mine. This costume won 2nd place in the Halloween costume contest that year.
